This blog post will finalize my articles series around Corporate Publisher and its enhanced functionalities. The different posts covers the basic concepts of Corporate Publisher Scripting (CP Scritping) but also shows possible applications of these enhanced features.

This video presents the enhanced functionalities of Corporate Publisher, a software component of Corporate Modeler Suite. The Power Point presentation covers the basic concepts of CP Scripting and the live product presentation shows a HTML output created with Corporate Publisher.

I would like to strenghten the point that the the examples in this video are random examples that I have choosen and that much more can be achieved by injecting Java Code/Scripts into the HTML publication that Corporate Publisher generates. It is also important that for some functionality that you have seen in my video you might need some third party software, like Casewise Portal, Casewise Web Modeler or Casewise Corporate Synergy. Having said that, you can obvious also use other tool vendors solution to integrated with.

In my various posts of this series I have tried to explain as much as possible, never the less you might need some additional knowledge (Javascript, PHP, DHTML) in order to fully utilize the CP Scripting functionality of  Corporate Publisher.

As last part of this series I have looked into the enhancement of using tabs in Corporate Publisher (CP). Since over 20 years Casewise developing  modeling tools that is leading markets in Enterprise Architecture (EA), Business Process Analysis (BPA), Governance Risk and Compliance (GRC) and Business Process Management (BPM). The reason for this is the very strong capability to visualize content of the Corporate Exchange (Corporate Modeler Database on SQL or Oracle). Its flexibility makes is possible to use all kind of new technology, this post tries to show some possiblities. I have looked mainly into Google Technology like:

• Google Maps
• Google Charts
• YouTube Players

The graphical representation of textual information is very important in order to attract project members, stakeholders, and so on. Especially  the top management CEO, CFO, CTO, .. is looking for charts, dashboards on enterprise wide information. So why not make your content more attractive?

Google Maps with Corporate Publisher (CP)

As consultant I am using Google Maps nearly every day, to find my clients or to plan trips, so I was thinking how could I use the maps as part of an enterprise wide model? Since many years the Please Login or Register to see the link.model is around (watch here the full story)  the “L” stands for Location. So I have simple linked Corporate Modeler data with Google Map API (Please Login or Register to see the link.) and Corporate Publisher is displaying this in a very neat fashion on the HTML web site.

Google Maps with Corporate Publisher (CP)

As you can see in the image above the Corporate Modeler properties of the object type Location is on the left hand side and the different colour coded areas are showing where this data is used in the HTML output of Corporate Publisher. The great flexibly of this this solution is that it is complete customizable and e.g. the white info window can be filled with any data of Corporate Modeler!

Google Charts with Corporate Publisher (CP)

Google Charts is an amazing library of various charts, e.g. Line Charts, Bar Charts, Pie Charts, Venn Diagrams, Scatter plots, Maps, Goole-o-meters, QR codes. You can find here the full specification of these charts (Please Login or Register to see the link.). In my example I have used a bar chart and the google-o-meter.

Similar to the previous example I have used the properties of the object type Applicaton (its the A of POLDAT). For the “number of licenses” I have used the bar chart, coloured in red. For visualizing the “System Uptime” I have used the Google-o-meter. Also here pretty much everything customizable on Google site but also in Corporate Modeler or in Corporate Publisher. With CP Scripting you can define the exact place of each HTML item.

YouTube Players with Corporate Publisher (CP)

The practical use for an enterprise wide modeling exercise  is to distribute knowledge to the stakeholders (team members, project sponsors, end users,..). It could be used as manuals for applications, guidance or “How to guides”, and so on.

You Tube with Corporate Publisher (CP)

In my example I have used the “user defined video player” of You Tube and used CP scripting to place the video player in a specific tab on the main index page of this HTML publication. You can also create your own player with You Tube API that allows you programatically load videos (Please Login or Register to see the link.) I hope you can apply these ideas to your own project and would appreciate your feedback.

This post is now actually looking a step further and is applying the basic knowledge of Corporate Publisher scripting into a real example; to create a HTML publication with a tabbed output.

Adding Scripts in Corporate Publisher

You need to open Corporate Publisher Editor and navigate to the General Tab, here you can find the following settings.

In the left image you can see the usage of CP Scripting in Corporate Publisher Editor and you can see each script starts with <–#CPSTART# and ends with #CPEND–>. The first scripts are just references to different CSS (Cascade Style Sheets) as we want to have different colour coding for different POLDAT object types. In the last script you can find a link to an external file called “tabs_head.txt”, that is included in the script. With this technique you can embed external written code.

The example of the “tabs_head.txt” can be seen on the rigtht hand side image. It starts again with some CSS references, but more important here the first reference to our Ajax tabs, called “tabcontent.js” and “tab-to-tab-links.js”. The left image has the “leftbar.txt” script that allows you to add a navigation bar on the left hand side. In the same way you could do a topbar with some head navigation items. In the middle of the screen you can find the CP Script for the “tabs_diagram.txt”, this one is actually the next steps to get a tabbed HTML output with Corporate Publisher.

You can see the full script in the right image, where we define the number and naming for our tabs. Once we have defined this we start with our first tab with the diagram picture. The diagram image will be inserted afterwards by Corporate Publisher.

In the left image you can see the HTML Footer section of Corporate Publisher, where you can see two different footer scripts, one for the diagrams and one for all object pages.
You can see the diagram footer script in the right image called “tabs_mainfooter.txt”, on top you can see the closing tag for the diagram section followed by new open tag for the next tab the “Version Control” tab. In this tab you can also see how you can use the Corporate Modeler properties within your scripts, e.g. #CP_OBJECTPROPERTY_whocreated#. If you are not sure about the script names please open Model Explorer in the Design View.

Corporate Publisher allows you add automatically  ”variable information” to output the content of Corporate Exchange (underlying database).

The purpose of this functionality is to automatically add some text to the output HTML when the HTML pages are published. Corporate Publisher users add a “variable” to their textual content which is then replaced in the HTML with the value it represents at the time of publication.

This functionality helps the Corporate Publisher user in a number of ways, allowing them to add one piece of text to multiple documents, control where that text is output, replace that text with “current values” in the model, and choose whether or not to represent that text based on conditions.

Where to add CP Scripting?

What is the Format of CP Scripting Commands?

As part of Global HTML, HTML Header or HTML Footer

The command is written as a HTML comment using the following format:

<!– #CP_START# {HTML} #CP_END# –>

Where:

<!– Start of HTML Comment Tag

#CP_START# Required Tag denoting beginning of HTML code block to be checked for CP Scripting commands

{HTML} The HTML code block to be checked and then written

#CP_END# Required Tag denoting end of HTML code block to be checked

–> End of HTML Comment Tag

As part of multi-line text property

Important differences:

1. As each line of a multi line text field is parsed separately the entire <!– #CP_START# {i}{HTML}{i} #CP_END# –> meta command must be specified on one line.

2. As the meta-command itself and the {HTML} section is HTML code you must enclose the meta-command within [HTML On] and [HTML Off] blocks otherwise the command will be convereted to displayable text before it can be actioned.

As first topic I am introducing the a special customization of the HTML output of Corpprate Publisher. Fot those who are not aware of what Corporate Publisher is please follow the link to the Casewise webiste (Please Login or Register to see the link.) to get the full product description.

Basically Corporate Publisher creates output of the Corporate Exchange which is the underlying database of all Casewise products. Corporate Publisher allows you in a very flexible way to generate nice formatted HTML sites and provide it to specific audiences/stakeholders. More on stakeholders in my post “Please Login or Register to see the link.“.

A standard HTML output created with Corporate Publisher contains of course the content from Corporate Exchange like diagrams, object types, their properties and/or associations. These associations are very powerful as it allows you to understand the relationships between objects, which can be used for impact analysis, business continuity, compliance implementations and much more.

This first post is the start of a series of post, providing you on a regular base a step-by-step instruction on how to build a HTML publication that contains Ajax tabs. Other posts of this series are:

Many organisations building models in order to understand their enterprise. Different stakeholders, teams working together in central repositories to be prepared for solving future problems.

This presentation is focusing on Business Intelligence (BI) for Enterprise Architecture models/projects. Most important are the impact analysis reports, what happens if an application will be retired, or who is affected if an IT centre is no longer working are just a few possible questions to answer for an EA team.

Long time ago I started to develop reporting solutions embedded into application, to bring me up to speed with the latest reporting technology i studied the following books.

My video is focusing around reporting based on Enterprise Architecture (EA) data as i think it’s not quite common but a few of my clients start now exploring the benefits of impact analysis within their model.

An EA model has relationships between different information objects like Process, Organisation Unit, Location, Data, Applications, Technology these object are called POLDAT objects. But your repository needs to be extensible to add your user defined objects like Compliance Requirements to fulfil their requirements for e.g. SOX, Mifid, Basel, or other ISO systems.

The important part is that with the analysis of indirect relationships you can achieve amazing reports for Business Continuity Planning (BCP) or other business impact analysis.

Modeling an enterprise is not a simple task, you have to consider different stakeholders with different requirements, but also with different preferences on how they would like to access the enterprise knowledge. This video is focusing on different tools to fulfil the requirements for different stakeholders for Business Process Analysis. The tool presentations starts with fat and thin client application and also shows the use of Simulation and different dash boarding capabilities like Bubble Chart and Gantt Chart (Time lines).

It is important that all these information is stored in a central repository so that different project teams (stakeholders) can embed their requirements in the Business Process Analysis (BPA) tool, e.g. Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA), Six Sigma, BPM Notation (BPMN)…

The fully rounded solution contains also a powerful reporting capabilities (Business Intelligence -- BI) on your central repository to ensure you can get all the cross referenced information objects out of the system in order to perform e.g. impact analysis. Also task management and mobile application can be very powerful to engage with stakeholders

Companies are burden with multiple compliance regimes. Different project teams dealing independent and not using an integrated approach, where the enterprise could benefit from reusing information and saving cost by having a central repository.

There are plenty of books helping you to understand GRC from different angels, here my recommendations:

This video explaining first tackles the continuous improvement based on the PDCA cycle from Deming, afterwards I explain the theoretical approach on how to implement an integrated compliance regime with the C3 approach (Construct, Compliance, Control).

Construct -- C3
As the centre of a compliance regime is the the process description the presentation and the practical exercise is focusing on process flow and their POLDAT objects (Process, Organisation Unit, Data, Application and Technology).

This part of the presentation is dealing with harmonizing multiple compliance regimes, e.g. ISO 20000, SOX, MiFID, Basel II,..
This is not always an easy task as multiple stakeholders and project teams are involved, but the benefit of having a centralized repository is huge for the whole enterprise.

Control -- C3
T he control topic is dealing with assigning tasks, audit questions to people in order to ensure your compliance assessment will be performed. This is explained based on ISO/IEC 20000.

I can recommend the following books to read to familiarize yourself with the Business Process Management (BPM) topic.

Business Process Management (BPM) can be a tedious task and the implementation or change of a work flow can take months. This is because all the different stakeholders needs to agree on an end to end process but also on the tools that not always support an agile work flow development.
